BACKGROUND
My Professional Journey in Germany
After completing my studies in literature and sociology at the University of Mannheim, I began my career as a product manager in the IT sector of the financial services industry in Germany.
In addition to working on various project-based initiatives, I was actively involved in several nationwide committees. I also gave presentations at client events and forums at executive level.
After nearly 20 years of dedicated work in the IT field in Germany, I decided it was time for a new perspective.
Together with my husband Peter, I left our comfort zone in Germany behind – and chose to follow our shared passion: the ocean.
A Fresh Start in Bali:
From the IT World to the Ocean
In 2013, we moved to Bali, Indonesia, and began working as diving instructors.
This bold step into a new life far from home surprised many friends and family back in Germany.
It required courage, perseverance, and self-confidence. For the first few years, we traded the comfort of “German security” for the unpredictability of “Indonesian chaos.”
Passion for the Ocean:
The Beginning of Our Coral Reef Restoration Journey
Just before the pandemic began, we decided to take action as diving instructors against the dire state of the ocean we encountered every day: many reefs were destroyed, and fish stocks were declining.
Instead of waiting for someone else to solve the problem, we teamed up with colleagues, grabbed our gear, went out on the boat, and started restoring the ocean by rebuilding coral reefs.
Today, five years later, our coral reef restoration efforts rank among the largest of their kind in Indonesia.
In 2023, I founded the registered non-profit organization We Do OCEAN, with the goal of making a meaningful impact on the seas from Germany as well.
Awards and Recognitions
Our work has been recognized as a network partner of the German Committee for the UN Decade of Ocean Science and featured as a role model on the platforms BetterOcean and Heroes of the Sea.
In 2025, We Do OCEAN was awarded 1st Prize in the Environmental Category at the Award for German Sustainability Projects, presented by DUB UNTERNEHMER Magazine in cooperation with ntv.
